Advising in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS)
In CHSS, once you declare your major, you should see an academic advisor within your major department. Departments assign advisors to students in different ways. But, each department has at least one advising contact for students which you can locate by visiting our Find my Advisor page here.
Advising Matters in CHSS
Your academic advisor plays a key role in your success at Mason. Your advisor will empower you to take charge of your educational path and guide you towards timely graduation.
Below are ways that you can create a strong partnership with your advisor:
- Meet with your advisor at least once a semester to develop an academic plan and identify strategies for how to make the most of your time at Mason.
- Discuss your interests in your field and ask about internship and research opportunities, and ways you can connect with faculty in your program.
- Explore how to get involved in student activities and leadership opportunities that align with your goals.
