Last week, the Undergraduate Academic Affairs office of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences contributed its time, energy, and gardening skills to the Fairfax campus. They spent the day in the campus's organic garden, volunteering at the Summer Day of Service event organized by Mason’s University Life office.

UAA staff members were among 20 Mason colleagues who worked in the garden, which is located in the Potomac Heights residence hall courtyard. They weeded, trimmed, and distributed mulch and manure to the fruit and vegetable plants.

"We really appreciated the opportunity to be part of the Summer Day of Service," said Katie Clare, assistant dean for Undergraduate Academic Affairs. "The college values volunteerism and public service on the part of our students, so it was marvelous that we had a chance to do that work ourselves. Working as a team outside the office was energizing, and it was rewarding to be able to connect with partners throughout the campus community. We look forward to more of these opportunities to work with our colleagues and help the community in the year ahead."
