CHSS Undergraduates take part in Summer Virtual Celebration of Student Scholarship

The Office of Student Scholarship, Creative Activities, and Research (OSCAR) presented its Summer Virtual Celebration of Student Scholarship on Friday, August 14.

Undergraduate students representing programs all over Mason offered pre-recorded presentations of their research topics, with the entire university community invited to participate in viewing, discussing, and voting on the presentations.

Twelve CHSS students registered for the Summer Virtual Celebration. Some completed URSP (Undergraduate Research Scholars Program) projects and others were part of the Summer Team Impact Program (STIP). STIP grants, offered by the Office of the Provost for the first time in the summer of 2020, are managed by the Office of Undergraduate Education and OSCAR, and are designed for students and faculty to work together around a central theme, research question, or problem.

After the judging, three CHSS students emerged as winners at the celebration: Kyler Buckner's project, “Belonging in the Nation’s Capital: Mutual Aid as a Response to Radicalized Displacement,” and the  Summer Team Impact Project, “The Food, Water, Energy Nexus in Rapidan VA,” which included Jordan Boyle and Meghan Widmaier. Both projects may be viewed here.
