The College of Humanities and Social Sciences has announced 14 student winners of the 2015-16 Dean’s Challenge Awards. These awards recognize students, both graduate and undergraduate, who have excelled while making academically challenging choices in their education. The recipients of the awards receive a stipend, funded by the generosity of friends of the college, to assist with their educational expenses.
For 2015-16, the college’s Dean’s Challenge Award winners are:
Doctoral degree candidates

Master's degree candidates
- Megan Kaiser – Global Affairs
- James Meaden – Psychology

Bachelor's degree candidates
- Natalia Arancibia – English
- Dillon Berger – Philosophy
- Vanessa Cardenas – Global Affairs
- Morgan Ellison – History & Russian & Eurasian Studies
- Mark Cameron Hatcher – Psychology
- Ghizlane Moustaid – Global Affairs
- Sarah Solano – Criminology, Law and Society
Jamie Cooper, the college’s associate dean for academic affairs, applauds the awardees.
“This award recognizes those students who have gone above and beyond the requirements for their degree,” he says. “They have excelled in the classroom and have established themselves as leaders at Mason and in the community.”
The awardees will be honored at a lunch with Dean Deborah Boehm-Davis later this month.
